Guarded XcessProTM MSC

XcessProTM MSC is an Intelligent Network Appliance - Guarded Systems is pleased to introduce its industry leading access gateway and network appliance, XcessProTM MSC (Multi Services Controller). XcessProTM MSC is much more than a just another gateway, it’s a multi-functional appliance designed to replace a full rack of disparate but valuable appliances (e.g. gateway server, Firewall, link load balancer, packet shaper, and cache server). While the complete design will save thousands of dollars in expense, more importantly the XcessProTM MSC is designed to deliver the functions of four separate devices, on one seamless platform and appliance. This is a very important distinction. Most typically, stacking separate devices for authentication management, bandwidth aggregating, packet shaping and signature traffic reporting, and content caching, means that many of the best features found in each individual device are actually “turned off” by the installer in order for the entire stack to work reliably. This is because each device has its own operating system and has not necessarily been designed to work together without policy and rules conflicts. However, XcessProTM MSC is a single device, so all policies and functions have been carefully architected to work in unison. The result is a robust, yet seamless policy flow between all embedded features delivering the full functionality of four separate devices.

  • Link Load Balancing

    allows multiple “circuit bonding” to act as one, much larger circuit. In this case, the hotel client can choose an appropriate total circuit volume to achieve desired connection speeds – without the need to invest in an expense, large, single circuit offering. Using XcessProTM MSC, T-1s, metro E, DSL, and even cable circuits can work together as one. XcessProTM Concert provides 4-16 separate WAN ports to allow throughput from 300 MB to 1.2 GB.

  • Packet Shaping

    this feature allows the hotel to pre-define “fairness policies” with regards to total traffic flow and circuit capacity. For instance, business guests often rely on the network for email and VPN access. This is a high priority. More casual users may choose to access peer-to-peer or streaming media content – using a much larger portion of available bandwidth. This is often considered as a lower priority. By enabling the packet shaping feature, the hotel can set “priority profiles” to allocate more available bandwidth for email use, and less for peer-to-peer users.
